OHSAA Adds 7th Division and Thursday Night Championship Game
This year, the OHSAA State Football Championships will include a seventh division. The OHSAA Board approved the addition of a seventh division by a 6 to 3 vote during an April 2012 board meeting.
Increasing from six championships to seven will expand the 2013 OHSAA State Football Championships to a 3-day event.
The Championships will take place December 5-7, 2013 with the first game kicking-off at 7 p.m. Thursday night. The remaining six championships will be played at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. The games will continue to rotate between two stadiums; Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon and Fawcett Stadium in Canton.
The specific assignment of each division championship date, time, and location will be a topic at the May 2013 board meeting. The OHSAA staff is expected to propose their recommendation to the board at that May meeting.
